ALL IS NOT LOST...Here is the plan of the day or the POD:
We are going to watch a video on portion control after school, it is about 10 minutes long. This is great for my kids, for some reason they think I am withholding food from them for fun. Maybe if someone else tells them that they should control the amount of food they put in their mouths, it will make me seem less diabolical.
My son will get an hour and a half of exercise at Lacrosse practice, this is important and really the easiest part of our experiment because the kids love sports.
So far last night and today I have, voila, followed through with the meal plan. This is by FAR the most difficult part of the journey because my kids LOVE food and in LARGE quantities.
FOOD HECK YEAHS!!!
Last night:
Salmon and Shrimp corn soft tacos in a coconut lime sauce-Daniel Plan
Fixings were salsas, hot sauce, smidge of Greek dressing (40 calsk/serving)****
Watermelon and spinach salad with a drizzle of olive/oil and balsamic vinegar (my own creation)
This morning:
Shakeology green berry smoothies with one cup of berry/kale frozen mixture. Super Healthy/Yummy
Afternoon snack: Clif Z Kid's bar and oranges
Dinner tonight : Daniel Plan Chicken stir fry substitute steak, fresh cut baked fries, and roasted peppers drizzled with olive oil.
Note: My fries stuck to the pan so plan b was half of a baked potato with a pat of butter. My kids love buffalo sauce so they put it all over their potato. The dinner was OK, not my best work.
Mama's Notes:
Notice I am not tracking calories, I do not think that this healthy psychologically for kids of their age. I want to push choosing foods that are created naturally by God. If its in a box or made with artificial ingredients, I want to teach avoidance or moderation. I also want to couple this with portion control. I feel if I can instill these two behaviors as instinctual that will give them an advantage in this confusing foodie world.
****I looked over at Bella and before I could stop her she doused her taco in dressing, it was a great serving size teaching moment.
Let me end with 2Timothy 4:22 "May the Lord be with your spirit, and may his grace be with all of you."

Good for you Libby! We switched plates to serving supper on salad plates. They look really full with a good bit less food on them. May work with the rascals.
ReplyDeleteThanks John,
ReplyDeleteWe bought smaller plates the other day and are implementing that. The video we watched on portion control also stressed that. I know I have heard that plates have grown in size significantly over the years to accommodate our growing appetites as a society.
