Switcheroo

In any long-term relationship we find ourselves falling into comfort zones, roles, or even unspoken boundaries.  Maybe one always drives and the other is the passenger.  Possibly one person cooks Friday night dinner and the other person does the dishes.  It could even be something as simple as sleeping on the same side of the bed every single night with out giving it a thought.   In our house date night is no different, I am not one for details, I give a general sense of what I am in the mood for, get into the passenger side of the car (always), and next thing I know I am being ushered to my table.  I decided to plan a date, not just any date night, a surprise date day/night. This resulted in an accidental switcheroo! It was accidental because we didn't even realize how ingrained these roles were for us. I now know I took for granted the planning involved in the date night details and even more, I'll get into that in a minute.

We started out at the Tomato Pie Café in Lititz...Yummy!

Usually date nights are all out, eat whatever you want, celebrations, but we behaved!  Behold, I have proof of a proven strategy:

I ate half of my sandwich and took the rest home.  I ordered greens instead of a scone and dressed it with a light lemon infused vinaigrette dressing from olio, also in Lititz.

Okay, Okay FINE, we did have a weak moment at Sugar Whips in Lititz.  I had a lemon chiffon cupcake (super tasty) and honbear had a maple bacon cupcake (ewww) mmmm sounds good (sarcasm).

I won't bore you with the rest of the day's details but I will tell you this, the day's events included research, planning, and a little bit of anxiety, will he like what I picked?, will the destinations be nice?, will the restaurants work out?.  He was also acting a little weird, finally about 30 minutes into our date I said ok, what is all this awkwardness about?  Between the two of us we realized after 11 years of comfort zones and unspoken roles we were both a little out of our element.  We laughed about it and the rest of the time was an absolute blast. I relaxed and all of my planning came to fruition, even if it hadn't it would have been great because it was a staycation and we could have always went home.  I know that wasn't what you were expecting me to say.  Keeping you on your toes! (wink, wink)

The kids also went out to eat with the sitter to Red Robin, normally the bottomless french fries earn their name.  However, the babysitter was under strict orders to order bottomless fruit and burgers.  No appetizers or dessert!  They did not even miss it!
