I decided to try something a little different tonight, it is not a new idea or anything, I have seen a parent or two break ground on this already, so I thought I would give it a try, it is called exercising.
While Bella practiced soccer at the field, I was a multi-tasking mama! I was running (no entertainment, thank you very much!). I was running that loop, watching Bella play soccer, saying hey to all my peeps, checking in on David and Ava at the playground. I felt good, oh I was like... this is where it's at! That was cut short though, I had one of those nights, you know the ones, where it takes five people to take kids where they need to go, but there are only two of you.
I had my best friend Billie Jo take Bella home, I ran Ava back to the house, made a quick healthy dinner (turkey wraps with fruit and yogurt), changed Ava and I into swim suits, left David with the babysitter and prayed my husband would make it home in time to relieve her.
We made it to swimming lessons at the Hempfield Recreation Center, with the awesome Miss Mindy and right on time, I might add. Normally, this is my decompress, leave me alone, I'm catching up on texting, email, facebook time. However, I felt so good about my fitness decision at Bella's practice, I thought, why stop there! I geared up and hit the lap lane! I swam my little heart doing some questionable strokes, but definitely workout worthy.
While I was swimming I thought about a lot of things, but one thing stuck out that I really wanted to share with you. It was, why haven't I done this sooner? This was not only a support and a great example for my children, it was beneficial for me. You would think the real satisfaction came from the workout, but the exhilaration was just being able to be there with my children, doing the same things they were doing, sharing the moment with them. It was amazing and I want that feeling again and again. Will I have down days? Will I want to decompress and zone out during this free time? Sure, but those days will be the exceptions, not the norm.
My son and my husband had some father/son time, it was amazing to know that they were able to connect playing lacrosse and basketball. I asked David what do you like better, playing sports with Daddy or playing your IPad? He said sports with Daddy. If you know my son and his passion for video games, this is saying a lot. I know my husband was probably super tired, he drove to Alexandria, VA today, had a few meetings and drove back the same day. He was honest and later told me he was not going to do play with David for that reason, but he saw him zoned out on video games and thought, really? I need to get him off the couch and outside. It was a decision he did not regret.
My husband threw me a food challenge, oh you know I accepted. He liked the chocolate/peanut butter protein balls, but he said he would LOVE something that had a banana/walnutish taste. I said, "I got this" and voila...
It is a sticky mess to make!
My baby girl chef!
So they were a hit!
I never measure folks, so this will have to do for a recipe:
I just took about two cups of rolled oats
2 scoops of raw vegetable based all natural protein powder
Squeezed about 1/4 cup of honey
3/4 jar almond butter
fresh bananas
Crushed walnuts
So that's all for tonight, it is pretty late for me!
Fit N' Fun
Mama Out!
